Two Weeks in Portugal and Spain: The Complete Sephardic Journey

Fourteen days allows the full geography of Sephardic Iberia to be covered without compromise — Portugal's mountain communities, Extremadura's frontier towns, Castile's juderías, Andalusia's golden age, and Catalonia's Call. This is the most complete route we build.

The Full Arc of Sephardic History

This itinerary follows the narrative chronologically where possible: Portugal's 1497 conversion and its long aftermath in Belmonte and Trancoso, the border communities of Extremadura, Castile's medieval juderías in Toledo and Segovia, Andalusia's Golden Age centred on Córdoba, and finally Catalonia's Call in Girona — a geography that spans nearly the entire Iberian Peninsula.

    Route at a Glance

A representative structure over fourteen days: four days in Portugal (Lisbon, Tomar, Belmonte, Trancoso), two days crossing through Extremadura, three days in Castile and Madrid, three days in Andalusia, and a closing extension to Girona via Barcelona, totalling roughly 1,800 kilometres including one internal flight or high-speed rail segment.

    Managing Distance Without Fatigue

A journey of this length is planned around alternating driving and rest days, with at least three stays of two or more nights to prevent the itinerary from becoming a sequence of one-night hotel changes. Internal flights are used selectively — typically Andalusia to Barcelona — to avoid a full day lost to driving.

How This Route Is Built Privately

This is the most heavily coordinated of our itineraries, involving separate specialist guides in Portugal, Castile, Andalusia and Catalonia, unified under a single planning team so that logistics, not history, never become the traveller's concern. Hotels are selected for both character and recovery — some nights deliberately quieter than others.
