What Remains Today
No Jewish quarter comparable to those of Toledo or Girona survives in Oviedo, and the documentary record of a formal medieval Jewish community in Asturias is considerably thinner than for Castile, Aragon or Galicia. Municipal and ecclesiastical archives record scattered references to Jewish individuals and small groups engaged in trade in Oviedo and along the Asturian coast, particularly from the fourteenth century onward, though without the institutional infrastructure — synagogues, formally bounded juderías — found further south.
