A Tradition With Moorish and Christian Roots
Azulejos entered Portugal through Moorish Spain in the fifteenth century and were adopted enthusiastically by the Portuguese court and church, eventually developing into a distinctly national art form seen in everything from the National Tile Museum in Lisbon to ordinary house façades across the country's towns and cities.
